TEAMSTERS LOCAL UNION 229 MONTHLY MEETING

 

Please be advised that the Regular Monthly Membership Meetings will be held according to the below listed schedule.

 

All meetings are held in the upstairs meeting room of the Local Union Hall and begin at 10:00 AM.  Meeting are scheduled for the following dates.

The Seventeenth Annual Teamsters Local Union 229 Scholarship Golf Tournament

 

Teamsters Local Union 229 will be hosting our 17th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on Monday, July 7, 2008.

 

Over the past 16 years proceeds from this Scholarship Golf Tournament has provided eighty-nine college scholarships totaling $46.000.00 to students whose parents are active members of Teamsters Local Union 229.

 

We have a few openings available for this year’s tournament  and are inviting interested players to join us for a great day of golf and to help us in the continued support of this very worthwhile event.

 

This tournament is open to all Teamsters, both active and retired, as well as any guests.

                      Place:           Sand Springs Country Club

                                            Drums, PA

                      Time:             9:00 a.m.– Captain & Crew Format

                      Cost:             $70.00 Per Player

                                            Includes rounds of golf, cart, prizes & dinner

TEAMSTERS LOCAL UNION 229 WINS ORGANIZING CAMPAIGN AT VERSACOLD LOGISTICS!!!!

 

Good things are happening at Local Union 229 … In November 2006 Local Union 229 began an Organizing Campaign at Versacold Logistics located in the Covington Industrial Park – Gouldsboro, PA.

 

Versacold Logistics is a cold storage warehouse & distribution facility which provides service to major retail food chains throughout the metropolitan areas of New Jersey, New York and New England.

 

Over the past 18 months this campaign experienced several delays and set backs, but the Organizing Committee of Local Union 229, along with the approximately 150 determined  employees of Versacold, stuck together and were successful in winning this Organizing Campaign.

 

Negotiating a first time contract proved to be even a bigger obstacle, Versacold insisted that this contract would be on their terms and refused to consider any of the Union’s proposals.  With time running out, and with a strike looming,  myself and the Negotiating Committee were determined that we were going to make this Company understand that they must take our contract proposals seriously.  After numerous negotiating sessions we were successful in negotiating a five year agreement which provides for significant increases in pay and benefits for employees of Versacold Logistics.  On June 5, 2008, this contract was ratified by an overwhelming majority of the employees of Versacold Logistics.

 

On behalf of the Executive Board of Teamsters Local Union 229 I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the employees of Versacold and their Negotiating Committee.  Without their desire and determination none of this could have been possible.
